WRIC houses a dedicated Glass Blowing Workshop that caters to the specialized needs of academic and research institutions for scientific glassware. The facility supports the fabrication, repair, and customization of laboratory glassware used in chemistry, biology, and instrumentation labs.

Skilled glass blowers at WRIC undertake the development of complex assemblies and custom-designed components as per user requirements. This includes repairs of broken or damaged glassware, saving cost and reducing downtime for laboratories.

The facility primarily serves departments and affiliated colleges of the University of Mumbai and SNDT Women’s University, and is also available to other universities, R&D institutes, and industries. The workshop plays a crucial role in supporting experimental setups and promoting hands-on learning through interaction with technical staff and trainees.

WRIC offers a specialized Training and Certificate Course in Scientific Glass Blowing through its in-house Glass Blowing Workshop. This program is designed to impart practical skills in the fabrication, repair, and customization of laboratory glassware used in scientific research and education.

The course covers fundamentals of glass properties, safety practices, use of torches and tools, and hands-on training in forming, sealing, bending, and assembling glass components. Participants gain experience working with borosilicate glass commonly used in laboratories.

The training is conducted by experienced glass blowers and is ideal for students, lab technicians, and professionals from academic and research institutions. Upon successful completion, participants receive a Certificate from WRIC, University of Mumbai.

This initiative aims to preserve and promote the rare skill of scientific glass blowing while building technical capacity in laboratories across the country.
