Research, Design, and Development (RD&D)
The Western Regional Instrumentation Centre (WRIC), Mumbai, is equipped with modern RD&D facilities and expertise across diverse areas of instrumentation. The Centre actively undertakes projects and collaborative initiatives with industries, R&D institutions, and government organizations. Additionally, WRIC provides consultancy services to various industrial sectors.
Major RD&D Activities
- Development and testing of teaching aids in collaboration with university and college faculty.
- Design and fabrication of instruments of moderate sophistication tailored for technology transfer to industry.
- Conducting R&D projects supported by funding agencies.
- Facilitating technology and instrument know-how transfer to academic and industrial partners.
WRIC is engaged in continuous R&D efforts focused on the development of new instruments, technologies, and educational aids to enhance training effectiveness. These projects are funded by government agencies, industries, and internally supported with a forward-looking vision for technology transfer.
The Centre’s Research and Development laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation and equipment to support these activities.
Since 2007, WRIC has fostered a strong collaborative research relationship with prestigious institutions such as the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) and the Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering and Research (SAMEER), Mumbai. This partnership has significantly advanced instrumentation development and innovation.
We acknowledge the instrumental contributions of Prof. B. M. Arora (Emeritus Professor, IIT Bombay), Dr. G. P. Shrivastava (Director, Electronics & Instrumentation Group, BARC), and Dr. A. M. Ghodgaonkar (Former Director, WRIC) in initiating and nurturing this valuable collaborative program.
Continuing its legacy, WRIC maintains active engagements with industries to develop cutting-edge instrumentation systems tailored to evolving scientific and industrial needs.
